Stevenson Aviation Technical Training Centre was established in 1984 with a mandate to provide skills training and upgrading to meet skill shortages and other identified human resource needs within the Canadian aviation industry.

In 1992, Stevenson Aviation established a new campus at Southport. Today, this campus is home to one of only two nationally accredited AME "M" license apprenticeship program in Canada. The program currently has over 200 apprentices enrolled, and employs ten staff.

As of April 1, 2002, Stevenson Aviation merged with Red River College to create Stevenson Aviation & Aerospace Training Centre, Red River College. The new entity involved the amalgamation of Stevenson Aviation’s Winnipeg and Southport campuses, and facilitates a more effective use of resources in responding to industry demands.

Stevenson Aviation expanded its operations by opening a new Winnipeg campus at 2280 Saskatchewan Avenue on January 7, 2002. This new campus was established to respond to the continuing demand for skilled workers in Manitoba's aviation and aerospace sector.

Stevenson Aviation's Southport campus is a 2,322 square metre training facility. It boasts classroom, workshop and administration office space.

The training centre has an airside workshop with an adjacent student lounge and lunchroom overlooking the airfield. The entire facility is wheelchair accessible.
